On May 13, the Office of Personnel Management released the results of the SES survey. The survey was administered in January and February. With a response rate of 65 percent, it promises to give deeper understanding of how the SES corps views the pay for performance system and executive development.

David Walker addressing the Distinguished Executives. |
On September 28, the Office of Personnel Management announced that President Bush has recognized 333 federal executives from 31 agencies with the prestigious 2007 Presidential Rank Awards. Each year, the President honors an elite group of career members of the Senior Executive Service, Senior Level and Scientific and Professional corps who are selected for their outstanding leadership, accomplishments and service.
The Presidential Rank Awards consist of the Rank of Meritorious Executive or Senior Professional, and the nation’s highest civil service award, the Rank of Distinguished Executive or Senior Professional.
SEA’s black tie banquet at the Department of State Diplomatic Reception Rooms for Presidential Distinguished Rank awardees was held on April 17, 2008, and was preceded by the traditional “morning of reflections" on April 15. Winners of the Meritorious Rank were honored at a joint SEA/Government Executive Magazine half day event, culminating with lunch, on April 18.

Updates
The Administration and Congress use the strength of the Association's membership to gauge how concerned the corps is with the issues affecting the SES - if you aren't a member, it tells them you don't care. In addition to supporting the ONLY organization representing the interests of the SES and speaking up on your behalf, membership provides many benefits such as access to free, member only events; expert information and advice; timely information on legislative, administrative and judicial issues affecting career executives and much more...

For SEA members who are new to the SES (and any other members who may wish to attend), SEA will be offering a free 1 ½ hour session, “What’s So Different About the SES Anyway?”
Because the SES is a completely separate personnel system with distinctive provisions, very different from the General Schedule, it is extremely important that new executives – and SES candidates – fully understand this system.
The session will cover rights and responsibilities, benefits, job protection and limited appeal rights, fallback rights, pay for performance, mobility and the 120 day rule. The session will be held throughout the year and new members will be invited to attend within 6 months of joining the Association.
